Wall Lights for Dining Room

Do You Need Wall Lights if You Already Have a Dining Pendant?

They do different jobs, which is why most dining rooms want both. A pendant lights the table and the food directly beneath it; wall lamps light the room around it. With only the pendant, the table sits in a bright pool and the rest of the room falls away into darkness, which is what makes a dining room feel like a stage rather than a place to linger. A pair of wall lamps on the wall the table runs along, or flanking a sideboard, lifts the surrounding brightness enough that the two read as one lit room. On a dimmable circuit the same room serves breakfast and dinner. Akway handweaves 15 dining room wall light designs, ₹1,799 to ₹4,899, made in India with free delivery pan-India.

Wall Lights and Wall Lamps for the Dining Room

Akway dining room wall lights are handwoven from rattan, cane, bamboo and jute by Indian artisans. Wall lighting works alongside a pendant over the table rather than instead of it: the pendant lights the food, the wall lamps light the room, and together they stop the space feeling like a pool of light in the dark. Prices start at ₹1,799 with free shipping across India.

Where should dining room wall lights be mounted?

Mount a pair on the wall the table runs along, or either side of a sideboard or crockery cabinet. In an open-plan room, wall lamps on the dining side quietly mark where the dining zone ends and the living zone begins.

How high should dining room wall lamps be mounted?

Mount at 150-165cm from the floor, which keeps the glare above the eye level of anyone seated at the table. Matching the shade material to your pendant makes the two read as a deliberate set.

• Height: 150-165cm from the floor keeps the glare above seated eye level.
• Pairing: match the shade material to your pendant for a set that reads as deliberate.
• Bulbs: warm 2700K flatters both food and natural woven shades.
• Dimming: a dimmable circuit lets one room serve breakfast and dinner.

Each shade is woven by hand, so small variation in the weave is expected. Browse the full range below.

Can wall lights be fitted in a rented flat?

Only where a wired wall point already exists — a sconce is a fixed fitting, so adding a new point means chasing the wall and needs the landlord's consent and an electrician. Where no point exists and the wall cannot be cut, a floor lamp or a plug-in table lamp gives the same layered light with no fixing at all.
