What does a US importer need for rattan and bamboo?
Furniture and decor containing plant material requires a Lacey Act import declaration (PPQ 505), filed through CBP before the goods arrive. Rattan and bamboo were brought into scope in Phase VII of the implementation schedule on 1 December 2024, so shipments that once moved without a declaration now need one.
The declaration asks for the scientific name (genus and species) of each plant material and the country of harvest. A single piece can contain more than one species. Since 1 January 2026 APHIS no longer accepts paper PPQ 505 forms — filing is through CBP's ACE or APHIS' LAWGS.
One useful exception: you do not need a declaration for products made of cultivated bamboo — bamboo planted for commercial harvest. If the bamboo came from wild stands, or the origin is unknown, the declaration is required.
We are the manufacturer, so this is information we hold rather than have to chase: tell us what your broker needs and we will state the species, the country of harvest and whether the bamboo in your order is cultivated. We do not file the declaration for you — the importer of record does that — but you should not be guessing at the data.
How long does shipping take to the US?
Ocean transit from Nhava Sheva runs roughly 33 days to Los Angeles and longer to the East Coast — around 44 days to Savannah, with Norfolk quoted anywhere from 40 days upward depending on routing. Transhipment, carrier and season all move these, so treat them as planning figures and confirm with your forwarder. Add the 30–45 day production window before transit.
