Handcrafted by Indian artisans, made to live with for years
Every piece you see on Akway is handcrafted in our own workshops — in Northeast India and Noida — by 50+ artisan families. We aren't resellers or aggregators — we're manufacturers who have spent nearly two decades perfecting the art of rattan, bamboo, cane and wicker craftsmanship.
How Akway began
In 2008, when most Indian furniture brands were chasing mass-produced MDF and plastic, Akway chose a different path. We started with a simple belief: Indian homes deserve beautiful, handcrafted furniture made from natural materials — the same rattan and bamboo that artisans in Northeast India have worked with for generations.
What began as a small workshop with a handful of skilled weavers has grown into a full-scale manufacturing operation. Today, Akway is recognised as India's leading rattan and bamboo furniture manufacturer, with 734+ handcrafted products available across our own website and every major Indian marketplace.
Indian artisans possess world-class weaving skills that were going unrecognised. Akway was built to bridge that gap — bringing authentic Indian craftsmanship to modern Indian homes at prices that make sense.
— Arun Kaushik, FounderThe artisans behind every piece
Behind every Akway product is a pair of skilled hands. Our workshops in Northeast India and Noida employ 50+ artisan families who have inherited the art of rattan and bamboo weaving from their parents and grandparents. These aren't factory workers operating machines — they're master craftspeople who take genuine pride in every piece they create.
Each artisan specialises in specific techniques. Some are experts in tight-weave rattan patterns for dining chairs and accent furniture, while others have mastered the delicate art of bamboo bending for our signature pendant lamps and table lamps.
We believe in fair compensation and sustainable livelihoods. Our artisan families earn above-market wages, work in safe conditions, and have year-round employment. When you buy from Akway, you directly support these families and help preserve traditional Indian craft skills that might otherwise be lost.

Tight, durable weaveFrom raw material to your home
Understanding our process helps you appreciate what makes Akway products special. Here's how a piece goes from raw material to your doorstep.
Sourcing raw materials
We source rattan, bamboo, cane and wicker directly from sustainable plantations in Northeast India. Every batch is inspected for diameter, flexibility and grain before it enters our workshop. We never use synthetic rattan.
Treatment & preparation
Raw materials are treated using traditional, zero-chemical processes. Bamboo is heat-treated to remove moisture and prevent pests; rattan is soaked and bent while flexible. This is what gives our pieces their 10–15 year durability.
Handcrafting & weaving
This is where the magic happens. Our artisans hand-weave, bend and shape each product using techniques passed down through generations. A single rattan chair can take 3–5 days; a complex pendant lamp shade, a full week.
Quality control & finishing
Every finished product passes a multi-point quality check — structural integrity, weave consistency, finish and overall aesthetics. Only pieces that pass every checkpoint get the Akway label.
Careful packaging & delivery
Natural materials need careful handling in transit. We use custom packaging designed to protect each product's shape and finish — whether your order ships from our website or a marketplace, the standard stays the same.
Why natural materials matter
Sustainability isn't a buzzword for Akway — it's built into our DNA. Choosing rattan and bamboo is one of the most eco-friendly decisions you can make for your home.
Grows 30× faster than hardwood
Some bamboo species grow up to 91 cm per day, making it one of the most renewable building materials on earth.
Zero chemicals
We use traditional heat-treatment and hand-finishing — no synthetic lacquers, toxic glues or chemical preservatives.
100% biodegradable
At the end of their long life, Akway products return to the earth naturally — unlike plastic or MDF furniture.
Carbon-negative materials
Bamboo absorbs more CO₂ than equivalent hardwood during its growth, actively helping combat climate change.
When you choose an Akway storage basket, bamboo lamp or cane chair, you make a choice that's good for your home and good for the planet.
